Welcome to the teal room, here you will discuss recent events and future possibilities with your fellow councilmen. A narrator will offer prompts each posting round. Every councilman may select one of the multiple choices. To do so, please list that choice at the top of your post. This thread will continue to post in chronological order; to ensure the thread moves smoothly and swiftly, it is asked that you post within 24 hours of the person before you. If one does not post within their allotted 24-hour slot, the next person may proceed to post. Of course, you may always join in the next posting round.

The meeting room was long and rectangular. Its walls were teal, and engraved in them were simple reliefs of an antique style creating shapes within shapes. In even intervals were Corinthian pilasters on either side. They nearly matched the pacing of the six chairs that hugged the longest sides of the only present table. At the far end (towards the back of the room) was the seventh chair at the head of the table. For now, it remained vacant…

DM Please situate yourselves in the room and prepare your digital dossiers. The prompts will commence in the second round.

He’s the first one to arrive.

A satisfied smile winds its way across his lips as he glances over the empty room. Perfect. He takes his time as he saunters over to his chair and sets up his tablet, making sure everything he needs is open and quickly accessible.

He’s nervous despite himself. This is far from the first meeting he’s attended in the three years he’s been on the council, but he can’t help running through potential questions in his mind. He’s as prepared as he can be – he’d woken early that morning, unable to sleep, and had spent the early morning hours going over the summarised reports indicating how his division is performing – and yet the possibility that there’s something he’s missed leaves him unable to sit easy.

He fiddles with his cufflinks as he tries not to think on it too much. There’s nothing else he can do now to prepare, and his recent results have been better than forecasted so he doubts he’ll be subjected to any interrogation about his choice of policies today. Green eyes flick down to the illuminated tablet screen as he absently scrolls through the information for a final time, fingertips outlining key figures.

He’s far more interested in hearing what the others have to report. Though he’s got some vague ideas about what the other departments are up to, these meetings serve to fill in the gaps and sate his curiosity. His recent lunch with Lorne means that he’s more up to speed with infrastructure than the other departments, though it’s possible the youngest council member might surprise him. With any luck they’d get an update on the progress of the Zero project; though he doubts they’re being told everything, it’s always been something he’s followed with interest, as he’s fascinated by the idea of artificial kismets.

Well. He’ll just have to wait and see how this meeting progresses, even if patience has never been his strong suit.

A meeting at the Teal room was not one to be ignored. The moment it had popped up in his diary, sparkling with urgent signs and reminders to hold the date, Vale had moved all other meetings to make space. A meeting with the other councillors took priority over all over things. Not that he minded. Perhaps it was masochistic of him, but Vale had quite looked forward to this meeting.

It was always deeply fascinating to hear what the other departments were working on and provided a rare opportunity to voice one's opinion on them. Usually, they each worked quite autonomously, aside from the few areas where complexity led to overlap in their work. As such, rather than nervous, he was a little bouyant when he entered the room, warm smile plastered across his face. He toned it down when he noticed there was another occupant in the room already.

Well. Only by a smidgen. "Good afternoon, Councillor Fairchild!" Vale smiled as he made his way to his seat, "First to arrive, as always~" The other councillor's face held a hint of anxiety, perhaps not surprising given the gravity of the situation. He nearly smiled at his own pun. Tablet was neatly set down on the table and a cup of coffee, bought from his regular cafe of choice, was placed next to it. One could not last through a long meeting without a little caffeine in one's system.

"I do hope you are well?" Like Councillor Fairchild, Vale was in his Sunday's best for the event. Full suit, tie, and a vneck jumper made up his attire. It was fairly warm in the room, but as tempting as it was to remove his jacket, the formality required that it stay on. He pulled out his chair and took a seat, turning on his tablet to revolve through a few screen. While waiting for the others to arrive, there was little harm in catching up on a few emails.

The blonde was also aware that he may be required to report on the incident a few weeks before. Vale was prepared, of course, but there was little harm in skimming through the final reports one last time. In addition to those, he'd also come prepared with notes on his own plans to try and access the outskirts, along with some notes from his own meeting with Councillor Fairchild. Once resolved, he settled back and took a sip from his coffee. A little caffeine went a long way.

Through the doors entered a young brunette woman sporting glasses. Her hips quickly swayed left and right as she hurriedly trotted to the rectangular table. There were… t-two councilmen present already, both of which provoked immense amount of pressure and anxiety by their mere presence. “E-excuse me,” she said as she then arrived to the spot where the First Quarter sat. In his spot on the table, the young assistant placed her cellular device and switched it to holographic video chat. A projection was then emitted from the phone. It showed a messily made-up First Quarter in glasses, headphones, and an unkempt button-down shirt as some semblance to look “ready.”

The young woman then bowed and quickly excused herself. The doors were shut behind her.

Whilst taking a sip of coffee, the projection of Eve presented a palm to his fellow councilmen. “'Sup?”

This really shouldn’t be allowed.

A clicking sound of a pair of heels hitting floor could be coming from somewhere close. Seconds later, a slender young woman with light red hair, that could be considered close to the shade of rose pink, entered the room Her blue-green eyes were behind a pair of shades. A red scarf was wrapped around her neck and wearing a formal red blouse, black business jacket, and a black skirt. This young woman is none other than Adalinda Belmont, the Waning Crescent councilwoman.

"Greetings everyone." Adalinda stated in a polite and refined voice towards Valerian and Emrhys. It seemed the younger ones are the energetic ones, as always. Being on the council for 7 years. So she was a bit more used to these settings then others could be. That and her previous work in the entertainment industry helped her keep her emotions in checked. She did raise an eyebrow at what Eve did. Typical of the shut in from what she heard from the rumor mills, but doable. As long as they do their job right, she won't comment on herself.

"Seems you are very excited about this meeting Councillor Fairchild. You as well Councillor Lorne." Adalinda stated with an amused chuckled as she sat down in her chair. She placed her medium sized handbag in front of her. Let's get this show started. She was bit amused about these meetings, but is there really anything special coming up from the other heads? She herself might have a few things to share along with bring up, but for now she will wait and see what the others bring to then table. Let the games beings, shall we?

Should have spent my time a little wiser
he is exactly three minutes ahead of schedule. he's prepared, has been for going on a week now. there are exactly seven copies of the agenda, though he knows two are there for looks and nothing more. probably three, knowing eve. they sit both physical and digital, swaddled up against his datapad, because there are some that crave paper trails and others that avoid them, and he is nothing if not prepared. it is the same route he's taken before-- down the hall from his office and then up a floor, stop at the door for the last hall for one more call, and then proceed in and past the double doors to the inner sanctuary, stepping in and affording the collected council with one blank eyes, brow furrowed as ever.

he hears the tail end of belmont's comments, no doubt as frivolous and flowery as ever. he could allow them another two minutes of casual conversation before he reigned them in, or he could just get the damn thing started-- and, well, he knew which he preferred. he uses the drawing silence to place the papers on the table, the spare agendas placed in the middle and the rest carefully arranged before his seat, the datapad resting next to the pile. he pulls the chair just as he speaks, voice as even as though he was inquiring after the weather. "today's agenda consists of three main topics, with time after for inquiries, cross reference, and current endeavors."

he allows himself one final look at his datapad, confirming that the agendas have been sent and pulling his own notes up alongside, before casting his gaze across the table, sweeping across the heads there for confirmation. "we shall begin on the recent infrastructure issues, touch on considerations for potential infiltration, and finish with an update on vaccines and readiness for illnesses." al-amin pauses, gaze cutting across to the empty chairs and then settling on one in specific. "i understand there were hopes of discussing the zeroes project, but the research councilor has requested we hold off until another time. please forward any inquiries to them afterwards." with that, al-amin swipes through his notes, opening to the section for the first topic and then nodding his head, as though expecting someone to pick up where he'd left off.

Lorne is the next to arrive. He smiles automatically in response to the other man’s greeting, eyes tracking the clear good mood apparent by the younger man’s gestures and body language. Progress being made with his fighter, or was Lorne just this happy to attend one of the schedule meetings? “Good afternoon,” he murmurs in response. “Very well, thanks, and yourself?”

The small talk is interrupted by a young brunette woman Emrhys doesn’t recognise. He stares at her curiously, surprised she’d been allowed into the room, though the reason for her presence is made clear when she sets up Eve’s personal hologram. Very unprofessional, though he can’t say he’s too disappointed that the Intelligence representative won’t be there in person.

Belmont arrives and he responds with his own salutations, though it’s the arrival of Al-amin that signals the meeting is about to official start. He glances through the agenda he is given, fingers swiping through the various pages, though he can’t resist flicking his gaze to Lorne when he notices infrastructure’s recent problems are the first issue on the list. It’ll be interesting to watch him defend himself in front of the others, though the facts themselves are of little interest to him. He already knows enough about the situation that further explanation will likely be superfluous.

“I, for one, am interested in discussing the possibilities for infiltration that have been identified.” No point throwing Lorne under the bus quite yet. “Unless someone else has a preference for starting somewhere else?”

There was no time for small talk as the other councillors filtered in. Councillor Belmont was flashed a warm smile and a nod in greeting, while Vale couldn't help but bite back a chuckle at the audacity of the other Councillor appearing in the meeting by holograph. He was quite fortunate Law wasn't here, for Vale was certain there would be words. When the war Councilman arrived, the meeting began.

Possibilities for infiltration? The blonde nearly lifted his brows, though he held his smile of a pokeface as best he could. It was the first he had heard of such matters being discussed. Vale couldn't help but think to Locust and Amaranth. Between the man and the teenager, he had a certain bias towards supporting and developing the outskirts. Mention of infiltrating it couldn't help but spark his curiosity.

However, the elephant in the room was the point on his own particular headache. Vale had supposed that it might come up as an agenda point, but for it to be the first item must mean that it was considered most serious. His lips pressed together slightly. "I believe I would prefer to address any concerns in relation to my own department immediately," he murmured, looking between the various heads. "As soon as these are addressed, it will allow more time for, I believe, the more pressing topics of healthcare and infiltration."

It was unfortunate that the Zero project was not also a matter of discussion, though the reason was quite understandable. "However, I must admit that I am rather interested in any matters that concern the outskirts. I have a couple of points to raise myself, should time permit at the end of our meeting." His eyes moved to Councillor Fairchild. "I am also curious as to what health concerns we are aware of."

Prompt A chosen.

A) Infrastructure

Oh no… Oh no! Eve always knew that Fairchild was no “fair child,” but a demon. Lawrence, too, for even bringing it up. It’s not like it was important. Heaven’s no! Nervously, Eve began to fidget in his seat to get as comfortable as possible.

Thankfully, Vale – beautiful, merciful, plain Jane Vale – introduced himself as the martyr of the group. “Oh thank GOD–” but that was quickly shot down with that ever intrusive however.

Phew. False alarm, Valerian really was a saint. Praise be the sparkly lord of poptart kitties. “Iiii’m incliiiined… to agree with Vale here. I think it is most important to… discuss… the… uh… other points. The–ah, yes!– the infrastructure problem. Infrastructure makes sure we can live happy, fulfilling lives and it affects not just us, but… everyone in the capital, yes. So, I believe infrastructure is… the most important topic at hand because without it, we would die. Right.” Believable, right? He continued: “but while you guys speak of these munda–important matters, I will be… right back.”

In the place of the image of Eve was a pixelated poptart cat sailing through the galaxy with a trail of rainbows and sparkles. At the bottom, the words scrolled: “INTERMISSION. BRB. INTERMISSION.”

Should have spent my time a little wiser
a) speak about "infrastructure"

he's careful in his silence; he knows, at least partially, how skittish the other council members could be. they'd perhaps not yet grown accustomed to failing and having to explain why, exactly, they'd gone and fucked up. al-amin looks up, impassive as ever, before ascertaining what exactly lorne is getting at. he barely has time to turn to see what eve's babbling about before the transmission cuts, and he can hardly be faulted for sighing archly.

"lorne." he finally says, turning once more to the blond. he's close to making a sour face, as disappointed in eve's unprofessional behavior as ever; but he holds back, keeps his tone even without brooking dissent. "infrastructure. it seems the most pressing of the issues." lawrence offers extra words, as if talking more than normal could get any of them to do their damned jobs for once. he twitches the stylus in his hand, swiping it across the screen to write a quick note, before lifting his gaze once more.

"have you determined the next course of action? i've heard talk of delaying the start of other projects." he offers nothing more than an office-wide rumor, and knows it'll be shut down as a solution-- but it's a valid option, and he can't help but question the logic of ignoring it. he takes a moment to glance across at fairchild, anticipating a comment from there regarding funds. god, but he was glad he didn't have anything on the agenda this time around.

(Continuing with prompt A, as no chrono order this time)

It seemed it would be his turn to speak after all. "Very well," Vale nodded. He had hoped that this wouldn't prove such a significant area of conversation, given that all issues were close to resolution, but it was understandable that the other councillors would have concern. The sooner this was addressed, the better that focus could shift to more interesting matters. He steeped his fingers together, then looked between the individuals at the table.

"To provide a summary to those who are unaware, we are currently in the process of replacing and updating some of our older water systems in the city. Some of these have not been updated for nearly ten years and are, quite frankly, in dire need of repair and replacement. At present, our efforts are focused on the oldest sections, intending to fully replace these within the next two years."

Vale leaned forward, opening up some of his holographic files to project some of the key details. "We usually complete full scans of systems before replacement and maintenance work begins. This is to ensure that the full extent of work is known and we can plan accordingly. Unfortunately, the systems are built of a metal that complicates and distorts scan results, making it more difficult to see the full extent of work required."

His expression grew serious. "As a result, two weeks ago, there was an incident where we discovered one pipe system had extensive damage caused by limescale, undetected by the scan. We were forced to temporarily shut down the water system in that section while waiting for the necessary equipment, delivery of which was delayed." The holograph spun to show pictures of the damage. There was obvious corrosion and evidence of cracks in some of the pipes. One had an extensive deposit of white chalk threatening to block the waterways entirely.

"The repairs are now under control and further contingencies have been built into our existing budgets," Vale stated smoothly, leaning back in his chair. "As such, I do believe this matter is addressed." He smiled faintly. "Though there are a few separate projects I would like to discuss, if time permits, of course."

A.) Continuing with topic

Eve came back in time for a grand spiel by Plain Jane Vale. Wonderful. Exactly what Eve had hoped for. He lived and breathed for this day…!

He sagged in his seat and sadly finished off his coffee. He dangled the mug in betwixt thumb and forefinger as he listened. One point was actually rather curious: the scans had failed due to the type of metal used. Mug clunked against the desk, then Eve reclined in his seat with kneels folded up.

When Vale finished speaking (with that annoying practiced smile of his), Eve quickly and impatiently urged him: “Yes-yes, we understand you want to talk about other projects. Save it for the end, pretty boy.” Even though Vale seemed… uh, what was the word? Competent in his field, he was awfully young. And pretty. Rumour suggested he slept around to get on the council. Probably with Law, pfft. Should’a been a mongrel. “I make no promises, but I will see if my division can update scanner systems to be able to recognise these contingencies with as little interference as possible. Though, I am willing to bet my mongrel’s tarantula that it is a hardware issue. Perhaps the scanners’ hardware can be updated to something like ‘armour’ that acts as a barrier between the metal in the pipes and the metal in the scanners. My first guess is that magnetism is causing this issue, though there is a possibility I could be very wrong.”

After some clicking and typing around, Eve continued: “if it seems we are unable to resolve the scanner issue, we could just… send mongrels and slaves down into the pipes for good ol’ fashioned ‘human inspection.’

“What I would like to know is if the rest of the capital’s pipes have been inspected since the failure of this particular area, and… if this so-called existing budget affects the rest of our budgets.”
